Air Bag Control Unit
Air Bag Control Unit
I am getting a code that tells me the the sir bag control unit is faulty and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to test it or verify that is the issue? I am trying to get rid of the airbag light on the dash and would like my wife to feel a bit safer.
If you have ISTA you can run a "self-diagnosis" on the module. But every time I've seen errors like this it's a faulty controller and it needs to be replaced.
The good news is that used controllers are cheap - check ebay.
Bad news is that the controller is mounted under the carpet by the parking brake handle, so you have to pull out a front seat and a bunch of trim to lift up the carpet.
Also, there's a good chance you'll need to re-code the new module unless it came from a car exactly like yours.

ok thanks for the heads up on the location and the insight on the module. My scanner is supposed to be able to see it but communication fails so it makes me wonder if there is a wiring issue as I have a couple things that have the same problem. Any known locations I should check for broken wires to see it that's the issue? The modules I cant seem to talk to are the only things I am aware or not working ie the air bag and my convertible top. I have no lights or anything on the top buttons so I am going to tear into that soon but if there is a place that is commonly an issue I will start there looking at both issues. Thanks for you help so far!
