R56 Automatic Shift ****

My button stopped working recently. The car was only able to shift into R, N, D and of course semi tronic into other gears.

My question is do I need that button? Can I switch to a manual **** without loosing function? Can my car be shifted into neutral more easily without the button.

I just don't want to spend $100+ on an auto **** with a button if I don't need to.

I have been shitfing without the part below for a day or so. do I need the button? what is it's function?

they are not interchangeable. The manual shift **** is just a ****. you need that rod to pushes on a lock inside the shifter housing. try to push the shifter down, maybe it came out a bit and is not functioning properly.

Thanks for the reply. The spring in the know siezed up so now it is not functioning. My remedy so far has to simply remove the part and/or just toggle the gears manually.

Now I guess I have to replace the part.
