Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
Relatively simple. Just ensure that your ignition has been off for at least 5 minutes because it can retain a charge that might cause damage when removing.

So what all do I need, and need to do to have a successful swap?
swapping the DME is not an easy task if you don't have the right tools. I am not talking about physical removal. in short, you're looking to "clone" you DME. you need a donor DME with same part number and Ktag to read and write the ECU file. what year an model is your mini?

this has the TC1766 infoen ic chip. Ktag can read it on the bench (the back cover of the ecu needs to be removed and then connected to the tool to read the file and then write it on a good donor). PM https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ototype-r.html and let him know I referred you to him. let him know you want to clone your ECU.

I know on at least some Porsches you have to replace the DME, Immobilizer, and Key pill as a set and it works fine. Is that not the case with the Mini?
It is. BUT, these sets can be expensive, the car looses its identity in terms of true VIN, may loose the true mileage, will have a tampering protection dot on the speedo, if you loose the key, the dealer won't replace it for you since the donor set is not from the acutal car....the list goes on and on. At the end of the day, it's your choice

Hummm... I wonder if the original DME can be fixed, assuming its the problem?
Not knowing which circuit controls the fuel injectors or spark plugs makes it more complicated. Also sourcing the components can be challenging since unlike thru whole soldering, the surface mount components don't show values.
this is from a 2007 N12 ECU I have. The easiest way is to clone it. You can definitely look for any obvious burns on the board.
