Oil pan leak - question

2004 MCS. I'm chasing an oil leak. Question: With the car level, and the oil level appropriate, does the oil in the pan extend up to the level of the gasket between the oil pan and the engine block?

It would be unusual if it did since most engines keep it below that level because of leaks. However, the pan gasket is a known leak, as is the crank angle sensor and the oil filter adapter gasket.
