inpa question

Hi all, quick question regarding inpa, if i may.

i have inpa installed on a laptop but it connects to the engine module only. Feel like I'm missing something obvious.

What version of inpa works best with mini's (R53, 2005 MCS)?

What cable should i be using if different from the one that i have (pic attached)?

Is there a switch on the other side of your cable? Some of those cables have one built in to jump pins 7&8 when needed.

Tried the inpa cable linked above and it does not seem to work at all.

The original cable that I bought will connect to the engine module, nothing else.

The new cable has a switch on it with 4 positions. Tried all four separately, closing inpa and re-opening each time. With the ignition on (second position just before start) in all four positions the ignition shows off (not connected).

Put in the original cable that I have, in the same USB port, close inpa and reopen and it’s connected.

Some backround...the install of inpa is one I did from a bmw forum to work with older (1999) bmw’s.

I’m at a stand still on this. Any advise is much appreciated.

Maybe I need to start over with a different laptop? Runing inpa for a mini and bmw might be wishful thinking?
