Oil filter house gasket AGAIN!!!
Oil filter house gasket AGAIN!!!
Ok, I have changed the oil filter housing twice now and both times it started to leak with one tank of gas later.
I can’t understand why. First time I didn’t torque the bolts just made them tight. This time torqued them to 100 inch pounds. First time I changed the cooler gaskets but not this time.
What di I need to do to stop this leak? I saw where one person rtv’d the housing on but I don’t want to do that.
What else can I do?

I know it’s 88 in lbs but I did a lot of reading on this forum and it was suggested to go 95-100 inch pounds.
Are you saying that if in make the less tight it will seal longer?
I don’t understand that philosophy.

what I'm saying is that this is what the spec calls for. I've done it few times per spec and had no issues. since you tried the over torquing method and it failed, you're only left with just regular torquing and new gasket. I agree with you on the RTV. I'm not a fan of it either.
