Diagnosing Radiator Fan (NOT Running After Engine Off)
Diagnosing Radiator Fan (NOT Running After Engine Off)
So my girlfriends 2010 Mini Cooper S is having a heat issue where the engine seems to be running very hot, smells like plastic is melting after driving for 10 minutes or so.
The fan does appear to turn on by itself when the engine is running, which is good. Stage 1 and 2 fans are working properly.
I tested this as well, by directly connecting the battery to the fan and both speeds seem to function. But the engine does seem to be running hot so maybe its not?
The issue is when the car is turned off, the fan no longer stays running for a period of time to cool the engine.
I am not sure what caused this, but I brought to the shop and they told me BAD DME.
So I replaced it, and it still does not run.
That was a big expense, so before I go back and pay for another diagnostic I am curious - anyone dealt with this before? Anyone know the cause?

Maybe I should also add, that I pulled the spark plugs the other day and the gap on them was all wrong.
They looked melted, so I replaced them all.
That fixed a misfiring issue that was occurring, but who knows for how long.
