Engine/Radiator fan
Engine/Radiator fan
OK, I apologize for this post as there have been many addressing similar problems, but I have found nothing exactly the same. More info, 2003 MCS with 35,500 miles, out of warranty, San Francisco Bay Area (read that as cool weather) and I HATE the dealer
Problem: When the car was new, it seemed that every time we parked in the garage, the engine/radiator fan would run for a while after the engine was shut off. That was good. Some time later, the fan would never come on. I told the dealer about it for at least 3 scheduled services. His response “if it doesn’t over heat, then I guess the fan doesn’t need to come on".
I have been reading everything on this forum and just checked my PS fan. It was stuck, but easily freed. It doesn’t seem to run either, but other posts suggest that it doesn’t unless it’s really hot. At least it doesn’t stay on.
Today with the AC on, I could hear the fan. However, when the ignition was turned off, the fan went off. When the ignition was turned back on, the fan came back on. Is that normal?

My fan never stays on either, which I find weird, especially considering I'm in AZ and its 110, and I drive the heck out of the car. I asked the same question and apparantly the MINI fans just dont stay on unless they really really need to

I could accept that, but why does the fan run when the ignition is on? It doesn't when the engine is cold.
Guess you have to worry about overheating a little more that I do, but we do have some hot areas.
