Engine cool down fan
Engine cool down fan when engine shuts off fan comes on.
is there a solenoid that operates the fan when engine is shut off to cool Down?
my engine fan always ran when engine went off to cool down engine, now it does not?
have looked & have not found any information about this fan operating or not?

After engine shut off:
1. If your fan ALWAYS stay on for the entire next 5 minutes or even longer to cool down the engine, you need to check the thermostat or thermostat sensor. The reason it ALWAYS does that is because there's something wrong with the temperature management system, and the fan controller is set to run the full length of fan cooling till the timer runs out. This is by no means the norm as it would seem to be so from your question.
2. If your fan shuts off pretty quick after engine off, it just means that the car has dropped temperature to a proper threshold where the fan doesn't need to stay on much longer. If that fan shut down at different timer lengths, it's actually the norm.
So I suspect that there was something not right with your temperature management before, now that you did these things, you've inadvertently repaired whatever was bad. I say this because for 5-6 months my car has been running like CASE 1 before, then toward the end, I started logging engine temperature. Come to find out, I did have a hidden engine error code saying the engine temperature circuit is open, and that reading stayed at 231 deg F the whole time, no changes whatsoever. I changed the temperature sensor 3 times and can't fix it until lastly I found that the plug has loose prongs which couldn't have reached the sensor's terminals. But once I addressed that, the cooling fan shuts off at varying times after engine shut off. And it all depends on how hot the engine is and how soon it can cool during shut off. Hope this helps.

I have seen it multiple times when there is air or air pockets in the system the fan runs all the time no matter the temp outside. You have to bleed the coolant system several times to get all the air out after a thermostat replacement.

I am in northeast Ohio and it was upper 80s today.
I wanted to check my coolant temperature so I used the torque app to watch it on my phone.
Normal driving it on the road it stayed at 215-217, in town it it went as high as 220 but no higher.
Drove home and parked it and when I shut it off the fan was on and stayed on for 10 seconds give or take and shut off.
Hope this helps

The only change I made recently was to change the valve cover & add a BSH oil can.
the BSH oil can failed was leaking around the top hole, bad welding.
speed shop did send a replacement but paid more than unit cost to find out it was wrong, engine light came on.
But that means since the fan now does not run after the engine is shut down that a blocked pvc valve in valve cover reduces the function of cooling engine down. All I can figure.

From the fan replacement how to on Pelican parts website it says:
"After the engine is shut off, the electric cooling fan may continue to run after the engine is shut off in two different scenarios. The system is operating as designed.
1. When the engine coolant temperature reaches 108 degrees Celsius (due to heat soak), the cooling fan will activate until the coolant temperature drops below 105 degrees Celsius. During this period, the fan has a maximum run time of 900 seconds (15 minutes) due to power management. Ambient or oil temperature has no effect on this run time.
2. On Cooper S vehicles with the N14 engine, the fan will run to assist the auxiliary water pump, which is used to cool the turbocharger after engine shut down. The maximum run time in this situation is 300 seconds (5 minutes)."

Always lots of breakdowns here, the maintenance here is low priority and a high number of older vehicles (no rust). Add to that the roadworthy test is only every two years up to 10 years old and very few people service them.

Wow, thats hot. Yes when i was in Russia all kind of cars on the side of the road, mostly Ladas, i think they don't take care of them out of all the places in Europe i have been.
