P0012, P000a

Running into two codes P0012 and P000a. I have taken it to three shops and they cannot figure it out. I put a new vanos in it and the timing has been checked. I was thinking maybe a bad tensionor or bad camshaft sensors?

I’ve been getting the same two codes. For some reason my MINI decided to give out on me this past Saturday. I pulled the valve cover and all eight exhaust valves appear to be bent, and all eight rocker arms came off of the valve stems. I haven’t been able to pull it apart any further just yet, but from what I can tell everything else is still in tact. The timing doesn’t appear to be off much, if any at all. I won’t know until verify with Cam Lock kit. I completed a timing chain install a month ago, even used the Haynes Manual for instructions and specifications. The car drove normal up until it gave out last Saturday, so I’m pretty lost at the moment. Any suggestions?

Can't comment on your codes, but I too have eight bent exhaust valves. Seems when I last reassembled my engine I used an old outdated torque spec for the crankshaft center bolt. Apparently it was "updated" after Bentley published their manual. Original spec was 50Nm and 100 deg --- new spec is 50Nm and 180 deg. The latest set of TIS procedures I know of can be found at --- https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ If your center bolt is loose, that's your problem.

I’ve been driving the car normal like this for a year now. Hesitates when accelerating on the highway. Doesn’t eat through any more oil than before which might be a sign the valves are still ok? Tried changing the vanos gear with no luck.

I’ll check the crankshaft hub bolt when I get it pulled back to the house. I looked at the torque specifications in my Haynes Manual and yeah you’re right it says 50Nm Additional 100 degrees

Update?

Did you find out what was wrong with your car? I’m also dealing with a p000a and p0012.

I did figure it out. Someone who worked on it previously swapped the maf sensor and the gas purge valve. Took 2 years to finally figure it out. Make sure your wiring is correct!

(The best way to really figure it out is to sell it😉 That’s what I did after I fixed it!)
