Footwell module fried from my mechanic jumping battery?

So I had my 2012 MCS at a shop I will never go back to, and they happened to kill my battery. They took a jump pack to it. They did not have time to fix what I had sent it there for, so he offers to tow it to the transmission shop he uses.

The trans shop called me after they got the car. Telling me that the turn signals, windows, dash lights, high beams don't work. I also have no pops and gurgles in sport mode. There is now a P053A code as well, with the red lift icon. After researching a bit, I have a feeling that the FRM may have gotten toasted.

I have a service appointment with the dealership to get the FRM replaced, as the warranty was extended for that specific part. It was extended to 10/156k.

Are these cars susceptible to jump starts, or might they have hooked the jump pack up backwards?

I've jumper multiple MINI, GEN1 and 2 with no issues.

Hooking up backwards is an excellent way to fry electronics

Did you get your FRM replaced under the extended warranty?

Glad to hear your FRM was covered. I am a service advisor in Kansas City, and over the past few months I have had 2 R56s in for service that needed to be programmed after repairs, and the FRM failed while it was hooked up. Both cars fortunately had the extended FRM warranty.

My FRM was covered but I had to pay the diagnostic fee because the engine light was on. From what I've read (a lot of that is from here) the reception and decisions at different MINI dealers varies greatly, especially when it comes to warranty.

@CarFreak427 - does that mean the FRM failed when it was newly replaced and the tech was diagnosing it?

Thanks.

Our dealership is owned by Group 1 so we have a no cost initial diagnosis policy. There are dealers who charge a diagnosis fee, it’s all up to the owners.

in these cases, the cars were in for other repairs that required FRM programming, and they failed when we tried to program them, so they were replaced. In this situation we don’t charge anything to diagnose the failure.
