FRM Module brick, a bit of info.

Hi! I'm from Italy so I have an european mini Cooper r56, I was surfing the forum when I saw that many users have this problem!
The problem is that when you change the battery and disconnect it,you will brick the FRM Module, obviously not on all car this is happening.
After Reading all these situations I'm scaried to disconnect the battery or do codings with bmwhat carly app!!

if that were to happen, the dealer should cover the expense to fix it. At least in the US, some members were lucky to have had it fixed under warranty. Check with your dealer to see what their warranty covers.

Thanks for the response, I have to code the battery with Carly, but I'm scaried to do It Because I don't want that the FRM Module bricks itself, for battery change I Can apply 12V on the battery pin of the car so the FRM is still powered on.
For the coding with Carly: I don't think coding a new battery will reset the FRM module right? So I Can stay sure?

I think the issue is when you install the new battery, the electric shock is what some times kills the module. you can use jumper cables to maintain voltage, or you can use a capacitor like the one they use with audio systems.

For changing the battery just:

Disconnect "black" cable (-)
Disconnect "red" cable (+)
Connect "red" cable (+)
Connect "black" cable (-)

More than 20 battery changes on R53/R56/F56 without any problem.
Just be careful and avoid playing with the cable againt the battery terminals. That's the problem. Innecesary sparks.

Battery reset (coding) is not related with FRM.
FRM is the "lights" (and other stuff) controller.
You will be resetting the battery age counter on car computer and it will be modifyng only the way the battery will be charged...

This is my experience as well. I've disconnected my battery dozens of times while working on my car....no FRM problem.

Same here. Disconnected hundreds of batteries ground first. Haven't lost an FRM yet.
