Is a gap between the engine air filter box and lid normal?

2013 MCS hardtop with N18 engine. I just replaced the engine air filter with an OEM mini filter, and after I did, I noticed there was a gap between the left rear of the lid and the box. The lid's tabs are definitely all in the box's holes correctly, and the gap is still there even with no filter installed, so it's not like the filter is installed incorrectly or somehow slightly too big. Is this normal? I don't remember being able to see the orange edge of the filter before, but maybe I just didn't notice.
