2013 R56 Oil Eater
2013 R56 Oil Eater
Hi Everyone
I have a 2013 Base Hatch. Owned since 5,000 miles, Car has 56,000miles currently. In between the last 2 service intervals I have had to add 5 quarts of oil. I have never had to add oil up until this point. I have no oil leaks, my PCV isn't clogged, I had a leak down test no issues, I had my cylinders and piston tops inspected for carbon and found little to no evidence. I have read, posts, threads, websites and watched videos and no one has any clue on why these cars are doing this.
From my diagnosis I have feeling that these engines oil rings now older cant keep up and are causing excessive blow by thru the PCV. That and possibly the engine is so under powered that keeping its RPMs above 3100 for hours and days on end might be a contributing factor. Which means Bad Design?
Has anyone here defeated this issue? Thoughts?

I have noticed that my wife's 2013 Justa Convertible auto with 70k miles uses significantly more oil than my 2011 R56S manual which has 105k miles on it. My 2011 uses about a quart of Mobil1 0w40 between 5k oil changes, while her 2013 uses more than 2 quarts of Mobil1 5w30 in the same interval. Neither one leaks a drop.
3100 rpm? I dont drive my wifes 2011 all that often, but I glance at the tach and when it is humming along at 70mph it doesnt even come close to 3k.
that said, hers only started eating oil in the last year or so and I was told when the car went in for a separate warranty issue that it is something they do. that, and the timing chain tensioners can leak without dripping oil under the car which I highly suggest changing out (just for general maintenance).

We had great progress with driver mod in keeping the revs down, but it still ate oil. Oh well. Its been sold. We couldn't justify doing a short block or equivalent .This car was almost paid off to.Good luck all
