Front Seat Bottom Interchange?

Can I use a passenger's side seat bottom on the driver's side? It sounds crazy, but I know of a few cars (Geo Metro, Disco I, Classic Mini) where the passenger's and driver's side seat bottoms are the same and can be swapped from side to side. My driver's side seat leather is cracked and starting to really show it's age. I want to find a junkyard passenger's seat that matches and use the bottom from it and maybe use some of the panels from the top of the seat to patch the driver's side as well. I figure this way the color will match and have a similar level of age as my good passenger's seat. I have the sport seats with Cordoba beige leather, if that matters.

Why not just find a good driver seat in a wrecking yard, as there are usually many available. I buy them every now and then for Mini's and usually cost me $50 to $75.

If I ever find one I will buy it! The thing is that in 4 months of looking I have yet to find one. Plus, many yards around here will not sell you a seat if it has an airbag in it.

Sad, as I live in southern Oregon and buy them regularly! Maybe you need to buy one from a junkyard system, with shops in other states???

It's not an urgent enough issue to do that. I still have a long list of other things to do before it becomes last on the list, and hopefully one shows up before then. I only shop at u pull it yards and very few seem to show up, at least very few r50 and r53 models. My budget for the seat is around $30, so ordering one is not within budget.

Short answer is no. The control mechanisms are different left to right and the covers have different cutouts to accommodate. That's not to say you couldn't make it work in a pinch, but it wouldn't be a tidy job.
