Anyone replaced the AC expansion valve on an R56 Cooper?
Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
Well, I messed that one all up! I replaced the flap servo motor never suspecting it was the temp control rheostat causing the problem. What a PITA!!! I had to take the dash apart to replace that motor.
So I have to replace the temp control rheostat next, and that's the whole AC panel. You can find used ones all over Ebay, but you're never sure if they are going to make the problem worse.
I though you said the motor wasn't closing the flap all the way?
Do you have to take the dashboard off to change the servo or just the center console? I need to change the radio display anyway so Im gonna do it all at once.
You mean you should have changed temp control rheostat = B11b in the pic below?:
Right, the motor wasn't closing the door all the way, but the temp control **** (rheostat) tells the motor what to do.
That looks like the left side view of the plenum. The temp control door servo motor is on the right side between the center console and the glovebox. You have to pull the whole dash apart to get to the stupid servo motor.
oh so the temp control **** was the cause of your problem. Thats good to know! That could be my issue as well.
I assume the only way to test it is to take it apart and check resistance. By the time youve taken it all apart you might as well just swap it out along with the servo motor and temp sensor....
After a good bit of looking, even on realoem, I could not find the location of the automatic blend door on our car.
I am thinking it is near the passenger footwell behind the panel on the left. I will check when I get home.
I bought a better boroscope and recorded the door to the AC evaporator being blocked off for heat and then when visible, its open to air flow from the blower. It looks like its closing all the way, but Im not sure. This is while accessing from the vent on the left of the speedo. Again my car has automatic HVAC.
