Oil Pump Chain Causing Death Rattle?!
Oil Pump Chain Causing Death Rattle?!
This weekend I started doing the timing chain on my 09 base hatch, after a day of careful disassembly I discovered that my oil pump chain was extremely loose.
So loose in fact that I believe it was the reason the timing chain sounded as bad as it did. You can find the video I originally posted to North American Motoring here:
.
This is how I found it in the engine here:
. The chain was so loose I was able to "skip" a cog on the sprocket with a screwdriver before the video started. I've ordered a new chain, crank sprocket, pump sprocket, and pump (It has 154,000+ miles on it anyway).
I do have an idea how it got this way but, I'll pull the old pump apart before I draw a final conclusion. If there are any suggestions, ideas, and/or thoughts on this I'd like to hear them.
Thanks, 150kMini
