Head removal: keep timing chain in?
Head removal: keep timing chain in?
Have a JCW that needs head work (burnt valves).
Looking at a couple threads, some folks seem to keep the timing chain in, keeping tension on it with bungee cords.
Any thoughts on this? The JCW had the chain recall done pretty recently.
Thanks,
Philip.

you could hold it or even drop it, there is no right or wrong. however, you have to remove the sprockets because when you set the timing, you want to allow the chain to take its best position before torquing. You also have to release the crankshaft bolt. I hope this helps.
First, don't believe every thread you read. Follow the manual. Second, get all your valve seats replaced while the head is in the shop. They tend to fall out once the head gets too hot.
