Strange camshaft sensor issue
Strange camshaft sensor issue
So my engine crapped out on me back in November (see This thread for details). I got a decent tax return this year and purchased a remanufactured n18. For the most part, the process has gone well. Except for the friction wheel pull tab breaking and water pump tube falling apart in my hands. Oh and the expensive transmission fluid.
Anyway, the new engine is in the car and we connected everything except some of the turbo tubing, ac stuff, and radiator hoses. Yes, this sounds a little risky, but we just want hear it fire up before put the car back together only find out the remanned engine was bad. At first, it wouldnt fire at all. No faults codes, it gets fuel, spark from each plug is good, timing and compression are perfect, but it would not fire up. Finally, after checking everything, trying a few things, a lot of head scratching, we disconnected the intake cam sensor and strangly it started to fire!?!? When reconnected, it will only turn but not fire. We swapped the sensors, but it will only fire when the intake cam sensor is unplugged.
Any ideas? I have another set of sensors and another valve cover I can try to swap out, but don't think that's solve the problem.
