Wide spread electrical issues
Wide spread electrical issues
So to start off, I just purchased the car (02 Cooper S) from auction for a very reasonable price. However I have been dealing with ongoing electrical issues. Before I started working on the car it had no power or signal through the OBDII port. Last night I dug into the car and found multiple coroded and broken pins inside the x15 connector (driver's side foot well). So I dug in and repaired the broken pins and connector (without unhooking the battery). Got the car all put back together and the OBDII port works flawlessly...success!!! Or so I thought. Went to take off and it was quite dark out, go to turn headlights on and nothing. No headlights, no heater controls no tachometer signal, no gauge functions, no DSC. Windows and locks still work along with high beams, interior lights, and running lights. The car still starts and runs great. BCM? Other pin failure in x15? Not sure on what I should do. I should mention that both sunroof drains were leaking in the car when I purchased it. The BCM had some corrosion in the white connector on the bottom but I cleaned and greased it. Not sure if when I repaired the x15 it shorted the BCM somehow or what happened. I plan on picking up a BCM today and I will begin with that. Thanks anyone who can help!
A friend of mine had an 02 S as a race car and had many of the problems you are referring too. His maintenance crew ended having to replace most of the wiring loom due to corrosion. Probably not you wanted to hear...
