Cooling passages are blocked off differently even though they said it’s made by the same company that makes BMW gaskets. Maybe there’s an update, but I’m apprehensive to install s gasket that has the large passage leading to the thermostat housing blocked. Anyone have experience with these recently?
All of my HG are after market. Not sure if there is a difference in the S model or non S though.
i used elring and victor whichever is cheaper at the time of search lol
Notice how the passageway in the upper left corner is completely blocked on the new one. That is a passageway that goes from the block up through the head to the thermostat housing. Also, on the right side of the cylinder those passageways are completely blocked were in the old gasket they are completely open. I realize there may be an update, but that just seems like a lot less cooling and I hate to put it together and find It overhearing...I would be very upset!
sometimes it´s good to make a direct reply from manufacturers side.
We suspect that you got the wrong gasket. On the tag we can see the reference 729.050, the CHG is made for N12 and N16 engine with closed water jackets. The reference you are going for is 729.040 for N14 and N18 engine with open water jackets. Please do NOT interchange the CHG, a usage in the wrong engine leads definately to engine troubles.
We do not know whether you got the wrong reference, in case you need some assistance in identification, feel free to contact service@elring.com...
Kind regards from our Service Team
Hello, Did you order this from us? Looks like n12/n16 gasket is what you got when you need an n14/N18 gasket, from what you removed. You can PM me and I can help you out.
