Help with code 0x2D50

2008 mini cooper S with 99,9933 miles. After driving about 5 minutes i got a limp mode warning. I am getting code 0x2D50 - "Knock Contol Super Knock caused by a defective knock sensor"

I reset the codes and the light comes back within seconds so it is not intermittent

Should i just change the knock sensor? I havnt done any research yet, how hard is this?

yeah just replace it.

two ways:
1- top: you have to remove the intake box and even intake manifold to reach.
2- bottom: you need to lift the car and use jacks. you need to be at least half in to work comfortably.

Thanks -- I ordered a new bosch sensor. Will probably go through the top. Since I need to take the intake box and manifold off, can I get to the valves and do a DIY carbon clean?

If you remove the intake manifold, sure. Be aware of the hidden 10mm bolt holding the manifold in the back.

To close the loop for future 2D50 sufferers. I changed the knock sensor with a bosch sensor and the issue went away. I did it from the top so i had to take the intake manifold and all the associated plumbing. Nothing difficult just a lot of clips and connectors to keep track of.

While i had the intake off i attempted to clean the intake valves. I scraped at them for hours and i am not sure if i finished or just gave up. What a PIA working upside down and backwards in a mirror with little or no light. I eventually hooked a cheap endoscope up to a pick and went at it. I was like scrapping cold butter with a knifed, scraping off curls of carbon. Eventually I found things that looked like valves. Cleaned them the best I could, but they could still not be considered clear. Anyway, must be better than they were when I found them.
