2009 MC hatch - Transmission sluggish from a stop - flushed fluid

2009 MC base N12 with the Automatic transmission

Purchased the car and the transmission was slightly jerky and slow, and I had to do some other maintenance so I purchased some trans fluid to add to the list of things to do. I looked up several how to's which were incredibly confusing. I found info saying that 4.8qts of fluid will be used on a drain/refill and over 6 is used for a full flush. I wasn't going to drop thepan so I ordered 5 qts of trans fluid. once I drained the existing fluid. I MAYBE got 2.5qts out of the transmission drain plug. I did remove the little plastic tube that extends into the pan. So I only got 2.5 qts out and my howto is telling me to add 4.8 back in. I compromised and put about 3.5 in just in case. It made a big difference in casual shifting but im experiencing a huge sluggish start when im starting from a complete stop. I can push the pedal pretty far, and it takes a moment for the trans to recognize anything and then it takes off really quickly and harsh. i don't feel any slipping or any other areas of concern but it would be nice to get a smooth takeoff.

any advice on what i can do? should i add the additional quart and a half of ATF

The issue isnt how much came out or how much you put in. all has to be done with care and patience. you need to drop the pan to replace the filter. here are some readings that can help with checking the level
