I got new valve cover and try to replace it. But I accidentally snapped 2 of bolts broken half but other bolts are fine. How can I take 2 bolts out ?

Can I still start up and drive my vehicle to the shop?

If there is any of the bolt sticking up above the head, you could grab them with a Vice Grip plier and twist them out. Otherwise, you will need to get a set of screw extractors and follow the instructions that come with them to remove the broken off bolts, this will require some drilling.

 

There is nothing sticking up above the head. Just half of bolf stuck. I think I need to dril those out. This case can I still drive to the shop around 20miles?

You have 1 good option and 1 bad one. Option one is buy an EZout kit and grill the center of the broken bolt and us the extractor tool. Always try the smallest size possible so you dont damage the head or You could drill out the bolt and retap but then your going to run into other issues. Dont drive the car as is or you will warp the new cover.

 

I have EZout kit and extractor tool but I worry about whem I drill some metal pieces will drop down to cylinder head... will cause new problems?

 

Once you drill the hole in the bolt just vacuum out the chips.

 

Pull the valve cover back off and take a dremel and cut a slot in the top (cover all open engine components!!) and unscrew them with a small flat head screwdriver. if you attempt to drill them out 9 out of ten you'll be crooked and do more damage than good.

 

I would get the cover off and use vice grips and heat
