I believe my valve cover pcv system went bad. I hear a sucking/whistling sound from the valve cover when I turn the engine off. it lasts for about 10 seconds. I have fault code P1497. car runs a little rough and is down on power I think.

I replaced the valve cover gaskets a couple months ago. I had the sucking sound before then but not this fault code. and I didn't get this fault code right after replacing the gaskets, few weeks went by.

is there a way I can rig something up instead of spending $300 on a new valve cover? I've read a little about a pcv delete but I don't know if that would solve this?

I don't think any part of that cover comes apart to be serviced. Hope someone knows different.

No responses on it. If you're adventurous you could try it. Not sure how that valve cover is designed. The price for a new cover seems to hover around $300. If you take the sensor off so there's no electrical components on it, you could try cleaning it with plain Dawn liquid soap and water, air dry with compressed air and let it sit off the car overnight. Install and see what happens. Clear all codes first.

what sensor? when i looked under the valve cover all that really stood out was the circular red valve looking thing. I blew it out with compressed air kinda gently. (this was when I was replacing the valve covers gaskets)

I think the cam position sensor is attached to it. It comes off. Look for an electrical connector on the outside.
