Tripod CV joint slipped out while replacing strut

I'm still learning. Anyways, changed the passenger strut just fine.

On the passenger's side I had to push the wheel down to finesse the strut assembly out. On the driver's it all just kind of fell down and the tripod joint came clean out of the housing. Looks like there was never any clamp on it. Boot is perfect.

This is all very new to me. Checked another thread here and it seems the tripod does just slide out like this?? Can I just clean it, grease it, slide it back in and re-clamp? Or do I put back together and tow?

make sure there's no dirt, plenty of grease, then put a clamp on it and you'll be fine.
