Help please

I just swapped my motor in my 2003 Mini Cooper s, the motor I put it is from a 2005 Mini Cooper s and my cooling fan doesn’t work, my question is, do I need to put in the temp sensor from the 03 motor for it to work?

Going to move you to the Stock Problems/Issues section.

You do have power to the fan at the fan set point?

The Mini Cooper Coolant systems functions as follows; low speed fan switches on at 221 and the high speed switches on at 234. When the AC is on, the low speed switches on when the system pressure is at 116 PSI with the high speed switching on when the system pressure reaches 261 PSI. The high speed fan will run without the AC being on if the set point of 234 is reached. On the Gen1 car, you can bring up the coolant temperature inside the car (will read in Centigrade) with the set points being 105 and 112. The cut off is 7 F below the cut in.

If I turn on my ac the fan kicks on, but when I’m driving the fan does not come on and my motor gets pretty hot, when I first swapped the motor it wouldn’t start until I used my kam sensor and crankshaft position sensor from the 2003 motor, but I’m wondering if I need to use the temp sensor from the 03 motor for the fan to know when to kick on

Have you tried moving the sensors over from the other motor?

I’m going to attempt to do that once I get home, now I’m realizing the fan isn’t turning on with AC on, as I thought it was, but I’m scared of driving it now

Definitely try swapping those, there may be a difference in the voltage outputs of the different sensors, esp since the '05 was a facelift car and the '03 wasn't.

Or...check RealOEM to see if the part numbers are different, this should tell you right away.
Ooops, you should do that first...

Well I spent all night trying to get the old sensor swapped over, everytime I got everything back together it would leak coolant from the sensor but I had it snugged up good, nothing makes sense

First, do NOT drive the car until you have this sorted...

What makes sense to me is that your fan is either not getting power (not plugged in, fuses blown or relays bad), or your fan is bad and needs to be replaced. You're going to have to go down the list of electrical components and test each to arrive at the point of failure.

You'll also need to remove the temp sensor again and either put on a brand new sensor or apply thread sealant to one of the two used sensors you have. Once you've removed them, the sealant has been compromised. Brand new ones come pre-prepped with the sealant.
