2009 MC Justa - Timing Chain Replacement or Tensioner Bolt Replacement
2009 MC Justa - Timing Chain Replacement or Tensioner Bolt Replacement
2009 MC Justa 94,000 kms. CEL on regularly with P0012 P0015 codes. No timing chain rattle or noise, other than CEL engine running fine.
I've searched the forum, but it's hard to find opinions that relate to a non-S, MC sometimes.
For a 2009 MC, non S, I'm getting timing codes P0012, P0015. My MINI independent specialist is recommending replace timing chain at about $2,600.00.
Upon reading here, it seems like Justa timing issues may be resolved by replacing the chain TENSIONER bolt with an updated part.
I understand that for MC S it is probably recommended to replace the timing CHAIN, but could I get away with just the TENSIONER bolt on a MC Justa?
What does the tensioner bolt really do, and how does the updated part make a difference?
Obviously, changing the tensioner bolt would be a lot more cost effective and from what I've read here may solve the problem.
Any thoughts or opinions?
What should I expect to pay for the tensioner bolt replacement?

the old bolt is 78mm while the new one is 82mm. the extra length is to account for the slack on initial start up where oil pressure hasnt pushed the tensioner enough.
if these codes are timing related, it is a chance the timing solenoids are not responsive.

Will add to the to do do list once it gets a bit warmer here in Toronto. Thanks again. Hadn’t thought about the solenoids.
