I started hearing a whistling noise from the engine, that I initially thought was a loose belt, but upon testing today, the noise only is heard when the accelerator pedal is depressed. On idle, the sound is not heard. I would think that eliminates it being a belt issue, but I may be wrong. Any ideas? Hope it's not serious.

On my 2008, the friction wheel that is responsible for engaging the waterpump has a whistle sound. It sounds like a supercharger whine. There is nothing wrong if that is the source. My car has been making that sound since 40000 miles and I now have 185,000 miles.

Yes, it sounds exactly like a supercharger whine ... .but (unfortunately) I don't have that option ...
