Rubber engine mount bushing bad?
Rubber engine mount bushing bad?
Hi,
I was changing the serpentine belt tensioner on my 2003 R53. In order to get access I needed to remove the engine mount bracket, which I'd taken off a few months ago to replace the camshaft position sensor. This time I noticed that the top part of the mount that has the stud mounted to it was separated from the bottom part.
Will the weight of the engine keep this pushed together? I think this part would be okay if it were always in compression, but it wouldn't be good if this was ever in tension. What is the rubber buffer or whatever called?
Also it appears to be attached by the frame underneath by some kind of small star shaped bolt. Kind of like the end of a torx fastener. Anybody know what tool will remove it? I'm hoping a small 12 point metric socket.
Thanks,
Eric
Going to move you to the Stock Problems/Issues section.
For me, yes you should change that support out and yes it might come off with a socket but that bolt is made for an external torx socket.

Know what size external torx socket?
Pretty sure that is a M10 bolt but off the top of my head cannot remember the torx size. I have the car jacked up, working on a lower motor mount, will check it out and post the size a little later.
