Lower Engine Mount Bushing(s)

Hey guys,

I scoured past threads on this issue with much success, but just trying to confirm...will replacing BOTH bushings in the lower engine mount provide drivetrain stability similiar to that provided by the LOTF engine damper, or would replacing just ONE bushing be equivalent to that?

Goal is to have a nice balance between NVH and driveline slack. The LOTF damper provided that for me, but I hated continually having to retighten it, as well as the narrow mounting location.

Come on, anybody? Thoughts at least? Some input? Just trying to confirm whether I need only the one, or both bushings for my goals.

My wifes MINI is an 02 and we have done all of the bushings, both lowers, engine side, and tranny, plus we have the damper on. If you are having noticeable vibration with just the damper then I wouldn't recommend doing more, but if you do them, do them all. I did the damper first, then the lower and then I did the engine and tranny at the same time. Oddly enough, the car seemed to vibrate less after all of the bushings were done. I theorize that the damper had stiffened up one side and the NVH was just being transferred to the other side. My wife really likes the way her car performs and the NVH doesn't bother her at all. On the dyno, her engine barely moves and the car no longer lurches during shifting

Did you install them sequentially to give each change a feel, or did you do them all at once? I read that the lower engine mount is responsible for most of the movement.

Ahh screw it...I'll buy each in turn, give them a whirl.

Thanks for the input.

I did the damper first, then awhile later I changed both of the lowers. After a long while I did the tranny and upper engine at the same time. If you have an 05+ you will not be able to change the the upper engine mounts. I didn't really notice too much difference until after I had done them all. I felt the best performance was gained after replacing everything, but a lot of people say that it causes too much rattling. We like how the car performs.
