driving lights

In a thread about my rear fog lights not working I had also posted this:
My Mini also has a little switch on the lower panel by my left knee that has a headlight with a little 2 in it. I asked the PO what it was for and he replied, "At some point in time that car had been outfitted with the additional Rally Lights that mount in the hood between the headlights! By the time I got the car they had been removed. I never replaced them because they are a bit expensive ($350 to $500) depending on brand. The wiring still runs to the front I just tucked it up in place! The rear fogs never made a difference that I could see or tell."

My rear fogs still only get 5 volts with the toggle switch on, and I haven't figured out why, but I did the Fog/Brake light diode mod so they are at least useful as brake lights, but today I finished up on the question of the little switch by my knee.

Yesterday I took the under-bonnet insulation blanket off, found the auxiliary driving light wiring tucked at the back of the bonnet, and re-routed it to the front. (I also found where a mouse had removed a hand sized patch of the fiberglass insulation, so I patched it with some pink house insulation and glued dryer sheets to the back of the blanket before I put it back on.)

The little "knee" driving light switch had never lit up, but with some after-market lights (I just happened to have on hand) connected to the wiring, the switch indicator lit up with the instrument lights and so did a green led in the switch when it was pushed, and the after market lights came on with the high beams.

I was going to order the OEM brackets for the 5" driving lights, but got to thinking about the after-market lights I already had but had never used, and decided to see how they would look. They're not classic or OEM, but they mounted on the aero grill with no cutting needed and I'll try them out for awhile to see if I really want to go for the $$$ of the OEM brackets and classic lights.

Don't know yet since it has been raining here and I haven't been out. I'll follow up when I have the chance to try them.

I thought I read that they are only 35 watts each so I didn't think they would be paralyzing any deer, but looking again at the package it says 55 watts.

I don't remember where I picked these up but the package says 2000 Rally Mfg. inc. Miami Florida No. 3070 so I guess it was 10 to 15 years ago?

EDIT: I saw similar Rally driving lights on ebay at https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rally-Xtrem...dYKHiD&vxp=mtr that are listed as 35 watts on the package and are PN 3055, so I guess I may have seen 35 watts on the instructions in mine which may be the same for both. The package looks the same too except for the part numbers and the wattage. Freezing rain here today so still awaiting a chance to see what they can do.

Look good and cannot hurt lighting the road up at night.
