Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
2004 6 speed MCS, 168k miles; PS pump and fan replaced under warranty by Mini dealer in Charlotte NC, USA at 163k miles and less than 2 years ago.
I've had the car 2 weeks and about 500 miles. No indication any PS lines have ever been replaced, assume they reused originals when replacing pump.
I just cleaned up the PS reservoir, cap and low pressure hoses to the best of my ability. After driving about 30 miles the first evidence of seepage is shown here at the top of this hose below the reservoir. Thus far, EVERYTHING else appears dry.
Before cleaning there was substantial fluid around the cap and sides of the reservoir. I've ordered the o ring for the cap
We replace all of the factory crimp clamps with worm style clamps any time we are in the area. Those crimp clamps lose their hold after years and will leak.
168K original hoses, you would suspect they are past useful life. I've had BMW's with the same parts and at 100K they were seeping and weeping. Clamps OEM or worm type didn't help. I'd probably try a new clamp first.
The leak is likely not from the clamps. They weep thru the hose wall. This is not a problem unique to Mini. I took me forever to realized it in my other car. I am not an ASE trained automotive tech. Probably share the same crap OEM supplier.
Replace the hoses and use new clamps. No more leak!
Once you solve that leak, you'll be treated to the next of many other opportunities to sleuth out where the other leaks are coming from...and there are many!
