Crank pulley for R53

Are the aftermarket (Cravenspeed & Perrin) crank pulleys recommended for performance gains on the SC R53 or will this cause problems , later on ? Thanks...

No we never recommend those style non dampened crank pulleys as they will over time damage engine bearings and oil pump gears. They also have a neg effect on the engine tuning so even though the car may rev faster with it being so light it still makes less power.

If you need a new crank pulley we would recommend the ATI damper as it is a little lighter than stock, but also balances better so it will run smoother along with being more reliable.

There are threads here on both the dampered type that Way sells and the (light weight) non-dampered that others sell. Cravenspeed is a vendor here that has the lightened pulley. Both "sides" believe they are correct so it is up to the buyer to decide.

This is my first MCS and I was not aware that the Cravenspeed & Alta pulleys were replacing the inertia ring balancer, like Way Motor Works pointed out.I thought that the Mini utilized a separate balancer that the lightened pulley mounted to but, to run a non-dampened balancer would cause destructive torsional engine vibration to the crank & bearing assembly. ATI & Fluidampr silicone filled balancers eliminate crankshaft torsional vibrations but, will not cure an imbalance condition.

Between over 85,000 Gen 1 threads and the experience of the members/vendors, not too much about a MINI you cannot find here.
