What is this sound?

This sound gets made when the mini is cold. It goes away after a min or two. Sounds like it comes from the back of the motor or maybe even the belts area. Im asking because i just got a warranty letter about the turbo and was hoping that was it so i didn't have to spend a bunch of money fixing it. It does not feel like it affects anything while moving just horrible high pitch sound that happens more when i let off the gas also.

Maybe water pump or serpentine belt tensioner or friction wheel. Something in line with the drive belt.

Check your water pump pulley and friction wheel. May need to replace one or both of them.

I put my money on the valve cover PCV diaphragm. When torn, they usually make that high pitched sound that goes away when you lift out the dipstick. The best fix is to replace the valve cover although a few have successfully replaced just the rubber diaphragm located under the plastic cap on the valve cover.

This. Check for air flow above the top left of the valve cover. Stick your hand between it and the air box.
