Need a little help

Hey everyone, I’m new to NAM. I’ve had my 2005 Mini Cooper s for probably about 6 months now. It has about 105,xxx on it and it just threw some codes. I’ve done my research on them and honestly it seems like every other thing I read says to fix something different so I’m hoping to get some clarity on this. The codes I got are:
0171- System to lean
0130- 02 sensor circuit
0455- Evaporative emission system large leak detected
0638- throttle activation control range/performance
1229- throttle position sensor adaption error
1498- leak (somewhere but that’s about all I know)

i alreay have a new throttle body assemply coming and ahould be here this week but im curious as to how I feel the other codes and what they actually are referring to that’s broke. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys!

Going to move you to the stock problems/issues area.

0171- System to lean - This and 0130 deal with the 02 sensors at the exhust
0130- 02 sensor circuit - See above
0455- Evaporative emission system large leak detected - Could be the gas cap
0638- throttle activation control range/performance - Could be the O2 issue
1229- throttle position sensor adaption error - Similar to 0638
1498- leak (somewhere but that’s about all I know) - Mass Air Flow issue and could be O2 related

Should get some others to chime in.

I'd get the P0455 problem sorted first. An air leak can account for some of the other error codes. Then clear the codes and road test the car.

During the road test then what (if any) error codes appear post the codes and someone will offer some help I'm sure.

Thanks guys! I’ll try the gas cap tomorrow and see if that does anything. And I’ll order a new set of O2 sensors tomorrow. There are two correct?

Don't waste your money on O2 sensors just yet, 8/10 times when you've got O2 codes they relate back to a vacuum leak.

Fix the evap code, as that should be easy.

Then move onto your throttle body codes and unmetered air codes (which could be in part to the throttle body), but don't buy a bunch of parts that correlate to the fault without properly diagnosing the issue, you'll save yourself a lot of money.

Check the clamps around the BPV and the throttle body. And for a cheap smoke test, hey never know.

Ok so what’s the BPV? And I got the throttle body and gas cap yesterday so I’m going to change those today and see what happens. Thank you guys!

Hey guys pretty much I fixed the car and have been driving it slightly harder to make sure everything is nice and sound with it, but I’m still throwing a code for 1498 and I don’t know why. What did I need to do to fix that? Also, just developed a pretty nice vibration driving down the road. Any thought?

Did you try the smoke test? There is also a way to pressure test the system. When I did, I found the clamps around the bypass valve loose. I took over the euro style and replaced them with the worm drive style that you can by in most hardware stores.

On the vibration, with those miles it could be the crank pulley/harmonic damper. Pull the passenger side wheel, remove the tension from the belt and see if there is any movement inwards or outwards on the crank pulley. Also look to see if there is rubber residue around the pulley.

I got those same codes a few months ago.
I changed the fuel filter, made sure the gas cap was on tight, changed the plugs and wires, and made sure the throttle body wire was fully connected. Never came back.

As someone else stated previously, it sounds like a vaccum leak. Replace the o-ring under the throttle body, test the BPV, and check the seal between the intake tube and the supercharger.

So you've still got a vacuum leak somewhere; you need to find a shop that has a smoke machine to test the system. The most common points of vacuum leaks are the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line falling off the intake manifold under the left intercooler horn, intercooler boots not being installed correctly, the supercharger gasket (green), or a failed bypass valve spring.

But there are also many other points of failure we've seen: Broken MAP sensor tube, the supercharger intake duct cracked at the plastic welds, intake manifold gasket (rare), intercooler core leaking, I've even seen leaks at the reed valve for the DMTL pump near the left engine mount.
