Water leak! MCS 2005

i just bought a used mcs 2005. After I parked it in my garage, I noticed water leaking under the wheel well on the bottom towards near the door on the driver side, right where the headlight washer tank might be. The fluid appears to be thin, clear and doesn’t have any odor in it. I remember the former owner told me he just filled the washer tank with water before I got the car that day.
Has anyone dealt with this problem before? Is my diagnosis of cracked tank or faulty pump correct?
Pls help.PS -it shouldn’t be just remnants or spillage from filling it earlier as I’ve already driven it 30 highway miles.

Moving you to the Stock Problems/Issues area.

What area of the country you in, did the fluid freeze and bust the tank?

I’m from the Bay Area in California. It’s possible it might have bursted as he (seller) just leaves the car outside. It can get pretty chilly up here at these low temps we’re having this time of year. I extracted the fluid from the tank and the fluid I saved that leaked out was exactly the same. Since I’m gonna be working and very busy this January-February, I’ll just leave it empty like that for now. I don’t think it would affect engine perf from an empty headlight washer tank. Now, I’m thinking should I order both the pump and tank at the same time or just the tank itself.

You should be able to access the tank from the fender well. If the tank is cracked, might be able to put some silicone on it, cheap fix.

Do you have a specific name or brand silicone for this type of a job? Have you heard anyone done it with good results? Thanks!

Also the hose may have popped off, as the headlight squirters are on the drivers side tank.
Never put plain water in these tanks! You would be asking for disaster!
You can remove the inner plastic fender and get right at the tank. You will e able to see if the hose popped off, or there is another problem, like broken tank, or leaking pump.

As long as the surface is clean and dry, there is not too much that a GE type 1 silicone will not stick to. Put some screen or some fibermesh into the mix and it can span some good size gaps.
