Both horns inop - relay clicks, does the click mean the relay is good?
Hi folks,
Both horns are out...I actually can't swear that they both went out at the same time as they don't get much use.
Anyway, the fuse is good, and I hear a CLICK when I depress the horn switch...does the CLICK mean the relay is good? And would therefore mean (sans a wire issue), that both horns are indeed bad?
I wouldn't mind replacing the 2 horns with ONE horn...pros/cons to that?
Thanks...

I had to change both of my horns. You should test the circuit at the horn to see if there is power. The MINI uses a horn that has special plugs, the cheaper ones that you can by for less than $20 will work but you need to create you own harness.
My Gen1 had a high and low frequency. One will work, its up to you.

the 'special plugs' contain nothing more than a hot and a ground
snip 'em off and replace with a connector of choice or just hard wire ...
many folks have been able to fit a matched pair of HELLA in the same spot ....
but determine if you actually have power first. If you hear the relay clicking, it is most probable the horns have failed (not uncommon as they are low and get wet) .... just went thru this same thing on my ST.

It is possible that the relay is bad - the coil is working and pulling in the contact, but the contact has gone bad. So yes check for 12V at the horn itself.
You should be able to get to the horns by removing the right front wheel and taking out the access covers at the front of the wheel well. If that isn't enough space then take off the entire wheel well cover. A lot simpler than taking off the bumper.

We've seen more than a handful of these cars that both horns fail simultaneously, I would check for power at the connectors when the horn is depressed to confirm it isn't a wiring issue first, but we've installed pairs of Hella horns on quite a few of these cars due to both horns being inoperable simultaneously.
