Click click click coming from a tire...help

..it is driving me nuts. There is a regular (as in one revolution of the tire = one click) clicking coming from one of the passenger side tires - not sure if it is front or rear. It is not a rock in the tire, my boyfriend jacked up the car and made sure of that. Then he cleaned my wheels really well , but the click is still there. Any ideas? I have the factory 17" Dunlop runflats.

Thanks, that does sound like my problem. I have the web spokes. Looks like my MINI will take its first trip to the dealer. I always drive with my windows down and the sunroof open and the sound is maddening.

Well, if you inspected the tire thoroughly, and there's nothing i nthe tread, nor a nail or screw in the tire, then it's a part of the suspension that rotates or interfaces with a rotating part. Wheel/brake/hub/rotor/bearings, etc.

It's warrantied MINI service time.

JCW- unlike your FF7's, R98's are true 2pc wheels. the rivots might
be loose or the differences in thermal expansion between the spokes
and rim might be causing the noise.

Maybe.

I wasn't aware the wheels ever got hot enough to encounter issues with differential heat expansion rates.

As well, aren't both parts of the R98 cast aluminum? The rates should be the same, no?

Oh, that was what was posted on the links above.

It wasn't my explanation for the ticking.

When you hear it doing it, see if it goes away when still on the gas pedal, but also lightly applying brakes. That will point to the pads/rotors.

I get the same thing with my web spoke wheels. It only bothers me when i am in a lane or road that is next to a wall or building and you can here it pretty well. I will get it fixed once i get some of my other issus fixed first.

Thanks - it was hard for me to tell, but my sound is similar. I could watch the first video but the second one said I needed Quicktime 7?. Interesting thread. I was interested in Dave&Stacy's posts because my dealer/service place is also Motorwerks Mini, and if they are aware of the problem and how to fix it, so much the better. I'll call them next week and see what happens.

Ladidha-

I suspect the noise is coming from one or more of your R98 Web Spoke Wheels. My R98's are making noise and I had the dealer look at them last Friday. My Dealer says that they have other cars that have clicking R98's and they are awaiting a regional rep. comments.

I've had the click on my '05 Convertible since a few days after I got it. Figured it was just something caught around the wheel or something. Guess it's time to take Banana Wind to the dealer for the first time!

Guess that also means it's time to buy some more accessories!

Edited: BTW, I do also have the Web Spokes

My girlfriend whacked a crater size pothole on the highway last week and busted the two Webspokes on the drivers side. I put the 16" R-83s back on(good thing I didn't sell them) and the clicking is gone. It was coming from the passenger side front.I will be putting a set of Webspokes back on soon.
