4th Fuel Pump In 2 Weeks!
4th Fuel Pump In 2 Weeks!
On Monday Oct. 4th I got in my MCS to go to work. I turned the key and paniced as I did not hear the fuel pump.......I proceeded to turn it over.......Nada......and over.......Nada. So I called for a flat bed. Into the dealer at 9:15 and my butt was back in the seat at an amazing 1:40 with you gussed it.......A failed fuel pump.
Tuesday Oct. 5th In the MCS to go to work.
I turn the key.....and don't even bother turning it over......just called the flat bed!
Thursday Oct. 14th.......Without my MINI for 10 (Ten) days now and the dealer shop forman has been driving my car to and from the dealer....they have blown 2 more pumps. I finally got ticked off today and said HELLLLLO!!!!! It's obviously not the pumps....which I realized on the second day. They stated yeah we agree......DUH!!!!! The area service specialist for MINI N.A. suggested "Maybe y'all got some bad gas."
"Drain the tank...stick another pump in and giv'er a whirl.
What the hell do I need to do.....go and put a new wiring harness in myself!!!!!!! Give me a F#*!ing Break. Can anyone help me or give me any suggestions.
My car is an '02 MCS w/ 23,400 miles. I have an Evotech ECU upgrade, Rouge Intake, 15% Alta Pulley, Magnaflow Exhaust...all of which would have no effect on my problem. So far the dealer has been cooperative but I am waiting for the gauntlet to fall.

The fuel pump is like a hydra - it has little electronic fingers poking it all the time to see if it is working. It also has a ton of things that turn it off in an emergency. There is an orange box next to the battery that turns it off if the car rolls or has an impact. An air bag deployment stops it. Too much fuel pressure stops it. Something in the electrical system may be shorted and turning it off. If the pumps are "blown" then this is a different and more dangerous problem, because this mean too much current is going to the pump and the safequards that should turn it off are failing. Too much current + gasoline = explosion. Make sure they figure it out. A clue - if it fails overnight, it is doing it with the ignition off, or immediately upon ignition turn-on.
Joe,
Thank you!!!! More info from you in a 30 second read than I have received from the dealer in 10 days. The failure has occured in the morning every single time upon 1st start up. They have hooked up a meter to the pump on several occasions and it checks out ok as to spec......still can't figure it out. I have heard from several people that it might be a faulty harness....that would be my guess.
Thanks Again!!

Fixed....For Now!
They drained the tank, put a new pump in and claim I had a bad tank of gas....That's the good news! Bad news is when the shop forman was driving my car to and from his house the pump failed and he had it towed.....SCRATCHING my front apron in the process
. I noticed when I picked up the car so now it's back to the dealer this week to fix the apron. I also noticed a smoke smell in the car and found that someone from the dealer had smoked in my car.
What a nightmare!!!

OMG, as if you haven't had enough trouble with those idiots, someone smoked in your car?!? That's disgusting! I would demand a full detail inside and out after they fix the scratch on your apron. If you don't trust them to detail the exterior, at least demand a full detail on the interior.

I won't even let a friend who smokes sit in my car. The smell just permiates her clothes and hair and anything she sits on or in. She once went with us in another car we own and you could smell it for 3-4 days and she never lit up near or in the car.
There is no excuse for anyone at the dealership to do ANYTHING in your car that might leave a trace. I would expect them to refrain from smoking just as I expect they won't eat or drink in my car. Just plain rude.

I have a wife who smokes and we have had the same deal in every car I have ever owned. If at any time I can lick the bottom of the ashtray and taste cigarettes she buys me a new car. I've seen her sit in the rain outside a restaurant finishing a cigarette before we get into the car. No new car yet after 29 years. I'd have that dealer lick out the ashtray!
It just keeps getting better!!!!
I am now fighting the dealer to reimburse me $297.69 for my two week rental car. They claim it will be credited to my account.....
I'll believe that when I see it. The "Customer Service Manager" who I know very well in as much as I have purchased 11 BMW's through the same dealer "Why" I am begining to wonder has been out on holiday for the last two weeks. He's going to wish he never came back when I get a hold of him.
I'll keep you posted as to the outcome!
