top stuck

Went to drop the top yesterday and it opened the sunroof portion and then quit after it unlatched at the a-pillars. Went to look for the "special tool" to close it, but nowhere to be found. The only thing in the "tool kit" in the trunk is the jack and lug wrench. Battery is under the floor of the trunk, don't see another tool kit. Where else would they hide it? I tried an allen wrench but the socket the tool fits in didn't move. Drove it a short time and the down button started flashing red, I guess to tell me the top was partially down. Stopped the car and the top closed. I then put it down and it didn't want to close. Made a short trip and it closed right up. First time for the issue.
Help.
thanks

I have same problem, more extensive. Mine is at the shop right now. It seems there are a number of plastic parts. If you can determine failure of one of those part(s) then it's an easy/cheaper fix. Hopefully you will not have to replace, like me, the entire "cassette"

The first place to look are the two boot switches. I'm sure you are aware of the two interlock switches in the boot. The one that the boot hatch closes is notorious for not closing properly because of it's short throw. I've added a patch of chair leg pad to the edge of the hatch where it strikes the switch and have not had a problem since. The shelf switch can open if the shelf is pushed up by cargo or just not settled in to place.

Fly'n Brick, can you direct me to a picture or source where I can see the switches you're referring to? Thanks.

Go to the rear and open the trunk. Both pressure switches are on the left side looking into the car, about 3" down from fabric top. When you open the left lever that locks the roof in place, you will see a small 1/4" wide piece of plastic, almost like a short flat screwdriver. This piece rotates into the trim upon closure and engages the first switch. The switch is about 1/4" wide and about 1/2" long. Once you find this switch then look into the trunk and find the shelf of the trunk trim where the back trunk lid rests when it is in down. The second switch engages the lid portion that curves down onto the shelf. The shelf is only 1" wide and only an inch or two from the first switch.

after resetting the package shelf, the top is working again. I may have dislodged it loading a large package in the boot. Thanks all. Will bookmark the links in case it happens again.
