I've got a CVT and have used Redline since my first change. I try to change it between 25K and 30K...I've got almost 142K on it now...I changed the filter the first two times along with the fluid...the last time I only changed the fluid. I've got another service due in the next few thousand miles so I'll be doing it again soon.
I detailed my experience in another post a few years ago...you have to take the bumpers off and remove the bolts on the Bumper Bracket Right Front and pull it forward a few inches. The transmission pan doesn't come out easy..you've got to play with it but there is a sweet spot on my 06 where you can get the pan to drop without disconnecting the motor mounts and lifting the engine with a jack...so I cannot speak to an earlier model...
It's a pain to get the filter on because you've got to put it on after you put the pan back in place..again it takes patience getting the pan back in place because it's a very tight fit....look for the sweet spot...or be prepared to disconnect the motor mounts and lift the engine with a jack. Slide the filter into place and with your hands/fingers as your eyes you press it into place...then take your time to put all the bolts back in place with a new gasket...torque to the right spec and pattern...then fill the CVT using the fill hole under the battery tray...remove battery / tray to access it...a lot easier than the normal fill point.
