Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
I have a 09 Mini Cooper S while changing the oil the other day I noticed a lot of burnt oil on the bottom side of the motor. Could of this be due to a bad turbo oil feed line.
Turbo oil line, return line, oil cooler gasket, oil filter housing gasket, all common places that could leak oil. Turbo oil feed line you usually notice if there's burnt oil on the topside of the turbo where the banjo bolt is.
There is oil on the top were the oil line comes in to the turbo. There is more than you can tell from the pictures and looking from the bottom it looks like there is oul on the bottom of the turbo
the valve cover gasket seems to be leaking too? clean the area and inspect for new oil leaks...buy an after market oil feed line. I have been replacing them on all my rebuilds.
I'm going to to change the oil feed line and see if that fixes the problem. I can't figure out were the oil is coming from on the bottom I'm hoping it is coming down from the top and burning off before it hits the ground. Because every know and then you will see a few drops on the ground. Tge turbo is leaking oil some were.
it is also reported the oil filter housing gasket can leak and the same goes to the vacuum pump gasket. I think it is worth cleaning all of the above and spot new leaks
I'll give that a try I'm out of my element im not a mechanic by any meaning of the word. The oil line I think I can do but anything over that worries me.
Then you have access to everything. Drain the oil and coolant before you start, when you disconnect the oil filter housing coolant will gush out everywhere.
Well today while I was trying to clean the oil up so I could of track the were it was coming from I noticed a cooling leak so took off a the pipe going to the air box and found this it looks like the oil and antifreeze is mixing some were
I feel for you. Oil leaks seem to be a common problem. My 09 base was diagnosed with leaks coming from the valve cover gasket, timing chain tensioner gasket, vacuum pump, oil pan gasket and oil filter housing gasket back in the summer. I thought the dealer was just blowing smoke but now I have oil drops where the car is parked. Not to mention I may have oil leaking into the #3 cylinder. Only car I have ever had with under 100,000 miles that leaks oil. I never purchase extended warranties on cars but I am quite thankful my wife insisted on buying one for the Mini. It has been worth every penny.
