MCS Battery Smell?

Anyone with a Cooper S ever go into the boot (trunk) and lift up the floor panel to look at the battery? Last time I did this, I got a strong whiff of sulphuric acid. This is quite normal for a lead/acid battery to give off, but what's of concern is that on the MCS, these vapours are released inside the car instead of the engine bay. Though I've never detected them from the driver's seat, I'm sure they are present and measurable in the air. Sulphuric acid is, I believe, a known cause of male infertility...

I guess it's to reduce the chances of us having kids to put in the tiny rear seat

Hmm...doesn't the MCS doesn't use a "Gel-Cell" type battery??? If not, I think I will be looking into an Exide Orbital or Optima Red Top or something like that.

battery

As I recall mine has a "drip tube" like a motorcycle battery that leads out of the battery box.

If you are Charging or discharging the battery at a high enough rate to cause Acid fumes in the battery box, you should investigate why.

The MCS battery definitely should be vented to the outside via a tube. Take a good look to make sure your vent tube is properly connected. And make sure the other end of the tube exits the vehicle.

Does MINI rely on the vents out the bottom of the boot to clear the air? I know that in my MC,the air does not move as well when the navigator is sleeping in front of them.
