I would take it to a convertible top or car fabric repair shop if you cannot do it yourself. They have glue for that and can reset it. Look for custom shops that work with Haartz or Webasto tops ( that the factory top manufacturer) .
Hi all, I fixed my R52 convertible seam coming apart with Gorilla Super Glue. I followed the instructions with just a drop of the glue as if i was tack welding. I then clamped each spot with a paper binder clips. One drop for one square inch so says Gorilla glue. I didn't think it would hold but it does!

On my wife's VW Cabrio with canvas roof, I used regular gorilla glue and simple loop
stitches about 1 cm apart with heavy upholstery thread (actually, two types of thread doubled).
Besides the fact that it's a bear to place the stitches, it works pretty well, if a little ugly.

did you lift up the boot area of the cover to do this or just keep it in place?

No. Just lower the roof halfway so that the fabric is loose enough to work with. Glue each spot from the outside and then apply paper binders to clamp it down for about 15 minutes each.
