2007 R56 BASE New Thermostat/Phantom Fan Issues

This is a long post, bear with me!!

Hello, everyone!! First time poster, long time lurker! Be nice!
2007 Mini Cooper BASE- non turbo

So, as the title suggests, I have just replaced my thermostat housing with the OEM part from the dealership. The install went fine, and there are no more leaks. Now, the issue with the car is that it has been at the beach for most of its lifetime, and the salt has just went HAM on the plastic. This includes the wiring plugs/connectors for dang near everything. Mainly speaking, the thermostat housing sensor:

Thermostat housing and sensor (brown base)

(I hope the pictures I insert work)

When pulling it off, it just broke to pieces and we did our best to plug it back in (yep- super glue is your friend). This connector is female, and has two wired connection terminals. I wanted to take a picture of that one, but I am afraid to damage the connector plug any more...

The sensor located JUST below that one (that plugs into the engine block) is pretty much the same connector, but only has one active cable connection (as shown here):

I would really like to find the connector so I can splice it. The dealership is asking roughly $800 for the whole wiring harness for the engine block [cries internally], but I only need that one little connector for the thermostat housing. I've looked at several junkyards/salvage yards around town and I've found two Coopers. One had the harness, but to my luck, the connectors were also busted. Maybe there's a BMW model car that has the same type of connector that I can snag?

Also, I received a check engine light after turning it back on, and it stated P0173B, "non DTS definition found; see service manual" and P0117, "engine coolant sensor 1 circuit low input". So, I'm assuming the issues are related to the sensors. We tested them with our meter and it seemed ok. Maybe the ECU needs reprogramming?

Now to the fan. The car was COMPLETELY cold when we were working on it, and after the install and starting the car for the final test looking for coolant leaks, the fan immediately turned on and stayed on for about +/-10 minutes. We tested it again, and turned the car on and right off, and the fan stays on for the same time again. While driving, the fan is on the whole time. I'm assuming the ECU is sending signals to the fan to stay on because it thinks the car is overheated due to the bad sensor?

Any ideas? Suggestions? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Check with your local MINI dealer with your VIN number, you may need an adapter wire since they are only using one thermostat part number these days.

Well, I looked at the part and it's definitely similar, but it's not the one that plugs into the thermostat for my Mini. :/ The junkyards around me don't have anything! I gotta see if I can find a more common BMW that has the same type of connector housing I can snag. The part above will definitely help with the wiring and terminals though!

Alright, I knew I had talked about that specific one before! Should have searched for this post initially so I apologize. Check out this thread HERE. This one HERE might be the one... not 100% sure though, but see if it may do the trick.

Man, I have been trying to find at LEAST the oil temp sensor because it was so similar. I noticed it had two prong slots so I could probably work some magic. Thank you for posting that thread. It was the exact year mini as well. Same problem! I bought two of those. Hopefully it will work. We shall see! Thank you again.

I noticed that the item description did not specify if it came with the pigtail/excess cabling (for splicing) and new socket/terminals. I hope it does. I'm just worried about the sockets. The ones currently in there are in pretty bad shape.

You're welcome. Please let me know if this does work out as I'd like to know. I've run into individuals with your issue a few times so knowing for sure will help. I'm not sure that connector comes with the cabling and terminals. I think this wiring HERE has the connector and cabling. You'd need 2. See if that may be what you need.

Well I got the part ordered (12-52-7-542-850-BOE). This is definitely the one I needed. I'm still waiting on the wires (61-13-0-005-199-M9), but I'm pretty sure those are the ones I need to splice into the wire harness. Thank you!

This is great to hear! I'm glad I could help. Thank you for the images and the update. Let me know how this all comes together.

Hey bud. I FINALLY got my part in. They gave me the wrong part! It clearly has the same part number. I'm gonna contact Customer Support and see what happened. The picture on the webpage (the part I actually need) is completely different than what I received.

Just my luck I guess. Maybe it was pulled wrong from the inventory.

Wow, ya that's not right at all. I apologize. Can you shoot me a PM with your order number and I'll get this handled for you?

Update: They are rushing out the correct part. Also, I don't have to worry about shipping back the green wire! I'm sure I can put it to use somewhere down the road. I will update soon.

How did you get the connector apart? I just got one and I just don't get it. It looks like I'm suppose to pull either the front or back apart to put the wires inside. I can't find ANYTHING online about it in regard to how to actually use it.

Update: After tinkering with it I realized the back opens up.
