Hey everybody. Have a listen to the video in the link below. Throwing all the misfire codes but starts and runs. Anyone ever hear this awful sound before? What is it exactly? I know it's hard to know without opening up the engine but please entertain me. Thanks for the help.
To me it sounds like bad valves/pistons mixed
with the death rattle. Ha

I'm not sure, but that does not sound good at all. I don't suggest you start it up and run it anymore. Might be a good idea to take it into a shop and see what the diagnosis is. It sounds like there could be some internal damage.

Thanks. Oh yeah. There is damage I'm sure. I am assuming that if it starts then the timing chain has not broke. The car is in limp mode because I see the half engine symbol. It is misfiring on all cylinders. I'm assuming the engine is shot and this happened only having 35,000 miles on the clock. 2009 S. The car is super clean - even has the original tires. No chance yet to do a compression
test or even start looking into the cause of
misfiring. In the video you can clearly hear some
air being sucked from somewhere and maybe the
chain rattling.

Ah, I see. You could pop off the valve cover and see what you can see from there. Can also do a compression/leak down test and see what info it might give you.

Thanks. It's a friend's car but if any work is to be done it's all me. Was hoping someone could chime in on possible causes of random misfiring on all cylinders and help by listening to the video. I have read a ton of threads in here so not being lazy. Ha. 1. Timing is off 2. Burnt valves 3. Piston issue....... 4. Vanos 5. Excessive carbon 6. HPFP
