Check engine light , no codes 2011 s n18
Check engine light , no codes 2011 s n18
This has happened a few times over the past week or so.
I get a yellow half shaded engine on the display, but when I check codes there's nothing, no pre codes, no idea why it's popping up.
Not certain, but it seems to happen when I'm in to high a gear and accelerating ie: coming up to a light in 3rd @20mph, on the highway in 6th and passing someone goin 60.... etc.
I use the torque app and bluetooth adapter, Ive checked it on the fly as soon as it pops up and Ive left it up for a day and checked/cleared codes.
Shortly after I got the car I had a coil go out on it and it had a mix of them so I'm thinking I need to revisit that possibly....how necessary is the walnut blasting on n18s? Easy enough to pull the intake and take a look or if I go that far should I just plan on blasting?

You have a code, just can't read it with Torque (is a BMW/Mini specific code). You need to take it to a mini specialist or the dealer to get it read. Without knowing the code, is very difficult to diagnose..
Yeah, Don't try to clear codes before you bring to the dealer, sometimes Torque will delete all codes even though it doesn't show all codes (weird software),...
As far as carbon on a N18, that is very rare, there is more likely another underlying issue,... keep us posted on what they find.
Good luck!

thanks, i'll have to let them deal with it ...
possibly related - ive noticed the last two weeks my car has kept circulating coolant after shutting off, which i know that is perfectly fine, but it sounds like its boiling through the turbo. also the past two mornings on cold start there has been a loud, high pitched squeal/whine very hard to pinpoint, but if i blip the throttle a few times itll go away and fine the rest of the day

+1 dont clear them so they can be read. Let us know what they find.

yep, i have appt for tomorrow i may leave with them to diagnose cold start whine also. havent cleared the code, it pops up but goes away on restart.
amongst the other list of problems hatch has been leaking into the boot where the jack/tool kit is, i just placed an order for a new grip assembly (from you, ECS) it started opening itself this morning, switch still works but the rubber cover for the switch has been long gone.

Dealer called after they took a look at it. The check engine light and whine turned out to be valve cover breather, I was a little off lol. Needs valve cover replaced. 435 parts and labor I think he said, but I told him I would change myself.
Did end up having oil leak at the solenoid harness 260 parts/labor which I had sorta known about, told them to go ahead and fix that, change oil, and got the diagnostic fee.
