Could be my imagination, or maybe I unintentionally hit the button
on the key ring, but a few times the doors on my MINI have locked
when I put the key in the ignition, as if I HAD pushed the button
on the key ring. Anyone else had this happen?

slightly different, I have auto door locks programmed "on" for Baby, which is supposed to lock both doors after I hit 10mph. This doesn't always work.

sounds like your problem and mine might mean a bug in the software.

So it's not just me!!!

I had the auto locks programmed by my dealer and it does not always work too. I think it only works when all doors are unlocked as opposed to just the drivers door.

No, my 2003 S will lock automatically lock the driver's door even if all I do is unlock the driver door.

I also found that I have the option with the "push the unlock button and the windows open!" What fun that discovery was!!

I've had the dealer activate the auto locking feature on my MCS and the first time they did it, it didn't work at all. The second time, it worked like a charm. Now it locks at around 5mph. No other problems with it.

Much to my surprise, my MINI had all of the programmed features that I wanted when I picked him up. Yet I never told the dealer which options I wanted and they only had 1 1/2 hrs to prep - they told me to bring it back to have it programmed. Well I have the comfort opening (hold unlock everything opens and key in drivers door opens and closes everything), and the doors automatically lock at 10mph. But here's the thing guys (and girls!) - the doors only lock ONCE per trip. In other words, the first time you hit 10mph, the doors (and fuel cap and boot) will lock. But if you stop somewhere and unlock the doors and let someone out, for instance, and then continue to motor without ever shutting the car off, the doors WILL NOT relock. Only works once per trip. And mine has worked consistently every single time in these past 5 1/2 weeks.

I don't get it. Why would anyone WANT this to happen. My wife's Explorer does this and it is easily the most annoying thing I have seen. Everytime I get out of the car to open the back the damn thing is locked and I have to go back to the front to unlock it. I would love to cut that wire.

What is the possible benifit to this?

Just had my convienence features programed this week. Auto locks are great, remote opening of sunfoof/windows fun, and pathway lighting cool. Auto locks keep people from walking up to car and opening doors when your at the stop light.

I think you got it right greatgro. I was never sure when it happened but it happened here and there and I never really noticed.

I like to lock the doors for safety reasons. Helps keep others out like god forbid you ever get carjacked and keeps people in the car like restless kids. It is kind of annoying to use the door latch twice to open the door but I often forgot to lock the doors in my old car so I like this feature. MINI knew some people would like it so that is why it has to be programmed if you want it.

You've got to get the convenience opening feature on the remote it is awesome.
