o2 sensor - aftermarket OK?

2004 MCS, 150K, original O2 sensors. Been throwing the occasional OBD 131 code, which I understand to be the pre-cat O2 sensor. One of our vendors lists the OEM at $242; an NTK at $180; and a Vemo at $48! The Vemo price seems too good to be true. Thoughts?

spend the extra $5-10 and get them OEM...keep looking...about 100-150 for a quality unit is right...NTK/DENSO is the OEM if i recall right...Bosh ones have had issues if i recall from threads...
and no matter WHAT YOU get DO NOT GET A UNIVERSAL with bare leads you must solder to the plug...the o2 sensors are VERY sensitive to impedance, and the length and condition of the wires are VERY important....
one tip..the pre-cat and post cat sensor is the same..so they COULD BE SWITCHED...

Zippy: Thanks, although I'm not sure what you mean by 'spend the extra $5-$10 and get OEM . . ." since the price difference is from about $50 to $250!

As for your tip, what would I accomplish by reversing the locations of the ones I have? I would still have a bad sensor. Is it because the post-cat doesn't do anything?

These cars are pretty finicky about the electronics. I'm thinking $48 will wind up being wasted and you will have to buy the real one at some point. When you say one of your vendors, do you mean you are in the business? If so you can often find the same parts online a lot cheaper than the local supply chain that tacks on some profit at each step of the transaction. When I buy my brake pads, the indy mechanic tells me he can't get them that cheap through the distributor.

Rockauto.com......they have the OEM- NTK, $98.79, minus the usual 5% off coupon
NTK 25648 NTK OE Type Info One of our most popular parts
Fits Flag indicates this part fits vehicles sold in the US Market. It does not indicate where the part was made -- manufacturers produce parts in multiple factories worldwide. Flag indicates this part fits vehicles sold in the Canadian Market. It does not indicate where the part was made -- manufacturers produce parts in multiple factories worldwide. Upstream; NTK is Original Equipment

$98.79
Prices will vary depending on the number of "hits" just like amazon....so be ready for it to go up!
and the difference of $5 or $10 is the typical price difference for OEM vs non-oem "will fit" parts...NTK $98.79, Bosh $90.79...

I hate to undercut Vendors with cheaper parts sites....but that is life.

just paste in the "how did you hear" box or the coupon box depending on the version of the site...
I find it usually makes the shipping free give or take a $1....have always gotten my stuff in a couple days with normal shipping.

An O sensor lesson learned the hard way: What brand of fuel are you using?
I was thrilled to save 20 or 30 or more cents a gallon at the supermarket pumps until the sensor died. My main wrench handed me a printout from the 'Top Tier' web site and I haven't varied since, near 80 K miles without further incident. Don't listen to the nay sayers who decry Top Tier as being a scam or such.

I just bought two NTK sensors from Rockauto last week and both of them are NTK Made in Japan and have the correct plugs.

The prices are all over the place for this part, but Rockauto was the cheapest.

Yes, NTK O2 sensor for pre-cat sensor. Lots of information discussed about this issue here.

NTK is good , so is the Vemo we are direct with them so we have good pricing. Just takes a little longer to get in. They are out of Germany and source from the same supplier to Bosch and NTK.

Thanks for the discount code, Zippy!!

Although the O2 sensors are different for the newer MINIs, Rock Auto definitely had the best prices, especially on the upstream sensor.
